So we drafted Donovan Tate. High school outfielder. I mean...whatever. Here's a story. He's a black outfielder and gets compared to....Mike Cameron and Andruw Jones. Beautiful.
Whatever. I refuse to get worked up about this draft until next year or maybe the year after that. I mean, you can't really tell. I will say that drafting Tate was risky because he wants to play at UNC next year and he wants a few million dollars. Whatever.

I find that offensive. I think he reminds me of Chris Young (AZ). Anyway, yeah if he signs, it's going to be a couple of years before we can really figure out if he's a decent prospect. Least we drafted another CF in Williams....also black....another Cameron/Jones type.
ReplyDeleteA couple of things:
ReplyDeleteWhy two CF in the first two rounds? You have to hope that both of them are going to make the big leagues. So why draft two high school centerfield prospects with your first two picks?
And I hope he doesn't remind you of Chris Young.
BA: .234 OBP: .308 OPS: .542 this season. And he has a career OPS+ of 82 (100 is average, not position adjusted) So I really hope he doesn't remind you of Chris Young.
Also: here's FanGraphs commentary on the draft commentary:
"Also, I grew up watching Harold Reynolds and loved watching him play, but his reasoning for the Tate pick was hilarious - "the Padres are one of the most boring teams in baseball to watch." I'm sure picking an 18-year-old who won't get to the majors until 2014 will make their games more exciting."
